School Development Plans
The DCSF expects every school to prepare a master plan setting out it's development intentions. Effective planning requires detailed, accurate data on the condition and suitability of the current buildings.
There is also the need to work closely with the local authority to take account of population trends, demographic factors, housing development and the planned future provision of education within the authority area.
A further factor which is integral to the planning process is the availability of funding, either from the school’s own resources or provided centrally the authority
Building Schools for the Future in the case of secondary schools and the Primary Building Programme for primaries will have a massive effect on the school building stock in the country.
In planning its implementation of these initiatives a local authority will need to work closely with its schools.
The availability of development plans prepared by schools will ensure that the authority is able to take full account of both a school’s current and potential situation.
